Well, I can't disagree with any of that.
The closer to the source material you are, the purest the experience is.
Still, bringing Yojo Senki to the conversation is kind of unfair, since I've heard the author himself pushed for the anime to be as ugly and gross as possible to prevent fanservice (he failed, obviously).

Though in reality maybe they all thought having the characters look really badly designed equaled good atmosphere. Or maybe they were just drunk, I dunno.
