I didn't read far enough to know, but her thoughts (from what I remember) aren't completely childlike.

It might also be because of the present tense. I feel like it would be harder to write a childlike character in 1st-present.

When I read it, I didn't see the inner monologue as a child.

ah well, guess that's something to look into then, studying the difference between "weird kid" and "child"
