I thought Twink was slang for a tall and lanky person. Turns out it's a gay slur.

It is slang and it can be derogatory, but I don't think it is considered a slur at the moment... no more than "Bear" in the gay community... but at the same time to reduce a person to a label is not a good thing in my opinion, since it is a form of objectifying a person.
Yeah, had I known that was the actual meaning then I would have never used it as a description. Though this isn't the first time I've been in trouble for not understanding what a word meant. Just the other day I found out that a Glizzy wasn't a term for a glazed donut.

I had no idea Glizzy was a word until you mentioned it a few days ago.
English slang is weird and stupid in my opinion. Until a word goes completely mainstream it could mean different things to different people and other slang words could not exist outside of a small circle. Stuff like urban dictionary has helped a lot but it's still dumb.
I had heard Glizzy from my little brother who told me it was a glazed donut and I heard Twink from a friend a few years ago who said it was slang for a tall and lanky person.
