Here's a summary before I sleep.

First, Europe hates Romania cuz
1. It has resources they want to invade
2. It wanted to be communist

This hate was even more shown after world war 2, when the europe had to reward Russia for helping out kill Germany, so gifted Romania to them.

So because of these steps, Romania got into crisis, and huge debt, just like modern day greece or rome, it is only holding itself through tourism.

This, paired with discrimination from rest of Europe, led to a very interesting stereotype
1. They steal organs of tourist
Which turned to

1. They sell blood of tourist
Which turned to
1. They sell blood to earn a living
Which turned to
1. They drink blood.

And the last nail of the coffin was, yes, the book, Dracula, where the Count originated from Romania

And yes, the constant invasion from east goths and barbarians also factored

Ask her next time why most of Europe thinks that Romanians are gypsies. Which is the no.1 Romanian stereotype that I encountered. Never heard about the tourist or selling blood thing.
