I am in college hell and am being pressured into being a lawyer by my mother, even though I want to be a professional writer.

There is a suprising amount of writing that comes with being a lawyer...

@Generic.Archdemon I have no wish to go to law school, I have seen what a bar exam is like, and wish to never take it.

Is that the only reason? There are a bunch of jobs that is law related that does not need a bar exam.

Rights investigator and law librarian both sounds like it would be a gold mine for story ideas.

Most if not all research material I need for stories is already at my fingertips, I know that not all law-type jobs need a bar exam, I was talking specifically about being a lawyer, not law in general.

Oh. Btw does your mother want you to be a lawyer because of the money/secured income? The "title"? Or the vocational calling of a person that practice law?

Btw, i worked for a law firm one summer, before there was email. Remembers being told, " hey you! I need you to run this document to the court house before 3.00pm" gave me a bunch of bills, "use what ever just get there!" It was very surreal.

It is more personal than that.

Oh? I wont pry, but those the reason mean you HAVE to be a lawyer?

E.g if i i want gave the best gulash to Dave and move him to tears, i dont necessary have to be a cook, i can be a gastro engineer in flavor sciences or a mangka whose story inspire a new generation of chefs

Wait wont it be funny if your mother dont want you to be a lawyer, but only want you to sit the bar exam. That would be a great plot twist..

Sorry. I know life is not a novel... I probably shouldnt make light of your situation...

I just don't want people trying to manage my life for me, mother or not, I should be the one in charge of my life and be able to make mistakes and learn from them.

Fair... . I suppose.

OK before I say anymore let me just say

First, I am a stranger on the internet, I am a pragmatist and a hypocrite. My only interest is in how things work, and I have no interest in the betterment of your life nor its detriment, I am simply interested in "life", that is why I am here, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

There will always be people that think they know better, be it parents friends or teachers. And the question of if they actually know better is always debatable. The key is “debatable”. Just as I am about to say now, and arrogantly dispense my "Truth"...
