I mean I made sure to point out that 3.5 was worth more for me than other people. Above average, which isn't what people on these sights typically use it as.

And I don't think that would have been the case without that drag, because even when it's slower later on, there are meaningful things happening and we don't NEED that immediate gratification. Which is why I think it would do better on reread because you know what to expect and what you're in for. Paradoxically, taking away that expectation almost helps because we get skewed on what to expect.

No, no, not that I think 3.5 is anything bad. You've presented your standards pretty well already. If you'd allow me to indulge, I want to write something that isn't just "good but not great" but straight-up "great". Something that'll knock your top spots in terms of web fiction.
