i've always found that a drop of surrealism help a HELL LOT in these regards: you can keep using your YA-like POV with your dark ass elements, but use it in a way where the dark ass elements are pushed to the wayside. reflect that in your writing, like characters disregarding major events or implications, but NEVER letting the narrative forget it. the characters may forget, but the story lingers.

a good point of reference would be the classic Catch-22. it's a non-linear collection of disjointed thoughts but it serves well as a bridge linking casual satire and dark subject matter.
