If you don't have insurance, then ask the hospital about financial assistance programs.
Usually, they have ways to pay next to nothing

Did it cost you 4k or the insurance?
If you had to pay 4k out of pocket, then you could still look into financial assistance.

2.8k out of pocket if I remember correctly.

Yeah man, just apply for financial assistance. Don't pay that kind of money if you don't have to.
