I have a cat that wakes the house
It isn’t for play, food, or a mouse
We don’t know why he wakes at three
To yell at the world with pitiful plea

The rub of course is being a cat
He can fall back asleep wherever he’s at
The rest of us must try our best
To return to our nocturnal rest

Perhaps one day we will know why
And have proven strategies we can try
To placate all his desperate moves
And restore our suffering sleep grooves

But tonight now he slumbers once more
Content after a bout of yelling galore
While I lay here in the bed above
