Fill in the blank with whatever expletive or self-deprecating term you want. Anyone else so excited about their stories and their characters that they find it agonizing not to drop it all immediately? Release cadences are important, readers like to savor things they enjoy, and time gives us all (reader and author alike) reflection that enhances the world. But I don't wanna wait...

Yeah. I'm impatient too. Just do your best so you don't burn through your backlog.

It can be hard.

All I want to do is post art and snippets of the second book I'm working on, but the first book is my backlog. Back when I was writing it, that's all I wanted to talk about, so it's not fair for the characters to breeze past them and not make art of them while the story is finally updating.

I do find that itch helpful to motivate writing new chapters, since I'm not allowed to talk to anyone about what I'm working on until it is drafted.

Thinking of it as fairness to characters is a good way to go. While my Book 2 utilizes the same characters, by rushing Book 1 out the door I’d be seriously undervaluing the start of their relationship. Which was, I suppose, the whole foundation.

Yeah, that's the hardest part of the process OTL

Especially nowadays, the window of opportunity to introduce your characters to someone feels like it shrinks by the year 🥹

I know. On one hand, I'm glad there is a lot of media out there for everyone's tastes and profiles. On the other hand, my characters are parts of the story I want to tell, and while I don't need the entire world to know that story... like a small little group that cares would be nice.
