i use pen tablet for drawing most of the time, and sometimes mouse for the simpler just for fun ones
When starting, you can start with shapes before drawing line art, that way you won't need to give 10 different strokes to one line and your line art will look smooth. I used to do the same when I was drawing on paper.

i dont get the construction thing. used to do it with circles and lines but i feel it's kinda limiting, instead of actually observing the picture. instead the paper or drawing space i construct them mentally.

i observe the reference and start from the face + hair so i can see the 'character' and just vibe through the proportions from there. or if i feel like constructing i just draw the rough outline that makes me see them.

but yeah correctness based on guidelines may be not as important as how it makes me feel good about the art. sometimes it's better to draw things that feel really wrong on purpose just to get away with it, or get lashed but you dont care since it's fun

What is the shape thingy actually?
my drawing still have some double line or hair line sometimes during the first sketch. And I'll line it using pen after that.
I need to work it out so I don't have to sketch twice or 3 times, hahaha

probably 'boxing' or deconstructing the whole body into box shapes before drawing an actual human body from it at some other tutorials it's circle and stick lines.

so basiially 'blocking' the general outline into basic shapes that are 'easier' to draw and construct the curves from there

yep it's basically like a more elaborate stickman skeleton that you dress up into actual human

and one of the things i remembered back then is that getting a posing mannequin is a good thing esp if you have some desk lamp to see the actual lightning direction.

yeah, I'm planning to buy that kind of small mannequin. Figuring out about lightning in my head took half an hour to process it, with mannequin i think we can get the lightning idea immediately.

i remember some demonstration about the lightning direction with mannequins in andrew loomis book figure drawing for what it's worth or something while you're waiting for it in the meantime, i think you can get it somewhere like archive org or looking on google it's widely available iirc

best of luck and enjoy your drawing :D
