My favorites? Nope. Alright, maybe let Faust II end where it should have ended instead of that annoying "redemption comedy" at the end.

But stories I hate and wish never had as much influence as they actually had? Bye, Twilight, 50 Shades, and modern "Romantasy", you will not be missed as actually fleshed out stories will take your place and divert the current focus from Mystical Bestiality Porn to actual Romance with Fantasy elements. And also prevent the death of Fantasy as a genre in bookstores.

I understand your frustration with the Faust II ?

I am an atheist; however, I have studied both as a pastime along with several other religions... They are lovely books as long as you cherry pick information from them.

If you actually read them, you soon realize how bat shit insane the people in the past were...

Old Testament - Incest, sending bears to attack children, child sacrifice and contradictions galore

Qur'an - From child marriage, to incest, to literally calling the prophet the deceiver of his people in his own book! It is funny

New Testament - Not as 'fun' as the other two, I guess they had an editor who called the authors out on the worst of the errors. Still, talks about love in one verse and in another says they do no bring peace but the sword...

I could go on for hours

Now I heavily disagree with the prophet being called the deciver of his people, Qur'an records what opponents accused prophets of (e.g., calling them liars or deceivers) in order to reject those accusations, not endorse them.

“Historically, earlier scriptures were preserved through manuscript transmission, which led to textual variations over time. The New Testament isn’t a reconstruction of the Old Testament, but a separate collection written later about early Christianity.”

Not exactly a rewrite, because I think the story is more or less fine as it is (even if there was room to grow), but I would "rewrite" Chrono Cross to make it less buggy, to actually get some use out of its massive roster, and to incorporate NG+ into the story proper to add a "synthesis" ending to get the best of both worlds. Possibly some other enhancements, like actually properly incorporating Chrono Trigger into the story, and maybe a "hard mode" for NG+ so it's actually fun to play.

Well, let us leave our disagreements as is; we both have our own opinions on it, and honestly, I see no point in further discourse in a thread about rewriting our favourite stories, LOL

We won't be solving the world's problems here in the SHFs =)

What do you mean, it's your favorite but there's stuff you don't like?

Nothing is without flaws. To embrace a thing is to embrace it in totality. With its flaws. Be it a book, a song, even a loved one.

it's not a favorite if you can't accept it in totality.

I write fan fiction. Of the crap that infuriates me. Good story, crappy execution. I try to improve it. (Subjective of course.)

I'd never besmirch what I love or ask it to change.
I know, but there's always something in your favourite story you wish it would be better if it was different. now a loved one is an extreme example you can't just compare loved ones with fictional stories. Unless you don't really love the person you hold dear or they aren't worth more than fictional stories to you.
(This question was completely hypothetical I didn't really mean you should rewrite it ?)
Edit 2: I'm confused by the statement "rewrite your favorite story." I understand it to mean a favorite story I've written. But this statement could be interpreted differently, meaning another fiction that I enjoy as a reader. If the meaning leans toward the latter interpretation... then it could lead to creating fan fiction or expecting the author (e.g., Tolkien) to rewrite their fiction (it's so unrealistic).
Now that's the whole point of this thread, I just want to know if you had the power to rewrite your favourite story as a reader would you?
(If you rewrite the story it will be the main timeline not a alternative one.)

I'd wager to say all media is a result of someone seeing ABC and deciding ADC would be way better. I think anime/manga gets me feeling this way the most. By the virtue of having to color inside the lines of a magazine or network, so many series could be "improved" if they weren't narratively censored. For example, you'll never actually get a deep story about the morality of making pokemon fight, or how the food economy works in that world, because Pokemon simply won't go there. Therefore, the closest you can ever get is someone basically rewriting it as a brand new IP. It's funny, because so many fanfic authors change so much about the original IP, that all they have to do is change some names, and now they have an original work, but to each their own.
