I'm writing a character centric dystopian hard scifi.
I currently use a black/gray/drab anime character cover that I feel fits well, but I was told that dystopian hard scifi won't be taken seriously if it has anime in the cover. Photorealism or abstract symbology only.
Since I can't do...
IDK if scribblehub is even the right place for lots of stuff to be posted (definitely made me think twice about posting mine) but it at least is a place to read and people are nice.
Like a reality show documentary? A guy playing a game? It'll be alot of:
"He clicked with righteous fury, screaming into the microphone. "NO YOU FKING FEEDERS I'M GONNA GET DEMOTED". Spit particles flew into his screen, staining parts of it a dull white. He wiped his cheeto dust stained hands...
I appreciate this. I have the same type of feeling sometimes but expressed in hard scifi instead of fantasy. Haven't posted to SH yet but you are inspiring me!
Federation is more powerful than almost all aliens except a few. They subjugated the Klingons with an unfair treaty that destroyed the (admittedly warlike and destructive) core of their culture. They get out of bad situations with the Borg and Romulans because they are "individuals" or pure...
I am not great with fantasy, but make sure that your synopsis matches your cover!!! They are synergistic!
Within your first chapter I see pop culture references. Does this sort of meta fiction add or detract from your main message? What if the reader only has a vague idea of Spiderman? In that...
POV switches are becoming too excessive with a rotation of poorly developed characters. What used to be novel has been reduced to a trick and a way to dilute character development.
however there are good guy power fantasy scifis that have become extremely popular. Star Trek is one.
IDK if it would even be popular if released today though, since it seems to be coasting on inertia.
It isn't suitable for more psychological or personal/emotional themes. Even in the context of scifi. Imagine if The Expanse was actually a Eve Online style RPG in Holden's head? Would cheapen everything.
