villains in a disaster story? are they necessary?

Of course not. 'Man vs. nature' is one of the fundamental story types. You don't need a villain, in anything, just an antagonist, which can literally just be the environment.

    Exploring your villains...

I like using villains as a medium to explore the MC's flaws and insecurities. They can be a control freak? Their villain is a despot. They're a misandrist? The villain wants to commit genocide. They fret over their image and appearance? The villain is a narcissist who literally resculpted their...

    Story dropped off trending?

Me when I go to look up the story to support it, and it's actually very well written and enjoyable:

What tips would you give new authors?

Just write. Literally just write. Even if it's terrible. Books aren't written, they're rewritten. You find it in the process of making, then you chisel off the wrong edges, like any good sculptor.

    Story dropped off trending?

The dread sorcerer Al-Gho Rheethm is a fickle master, who withdraws his favour like a skittish investor. Best not to take it personally.

At what point do your characters begin to take over the story?

I find my characters begin to buck in their first chapter, and by the fourth, it's their rodeo! What's that point for you? Or, are you a strict guardian, who keeps them on a short leash? How do you manage that? Can I have one? Pretty please, with sugar on top?

What is the Hardest Genre to Write?

Lovecraftian horror, I find. To truly get to that cosmic dread, you need to walk a fine line between abstraction and grounding. You need to be thorough, but without overexplaining. You need to be evocative, but you cannot be too expressive. Can just as easily come across as melodramatic or dull...

What did you learn during your writing researches ?

Prions. All about prions. Now I can't sleep for fear of misfolding proteins. I can't do laundry without courting a panic attack! But seriously, it is fascinating to look at how something as innocuous as a protein can cascade into a spongy brain, fast-onset dementia, and death. It's horrifying...
