    Named chapters, yes or no?

Don't care. I'm more worried about if the story is any good than if the author came up with a clever title for each and every chapter. "Great story but the author only used boring numbers for chapters so I'm not reading it" is pretty stupid logic.

After Becoming Extremely Bored, ile and Eve made a Lazy Book Corner

Bit of a kerfuffle in this thread. Thanks to that I happened to read Mimic. Great story. I'm a bit of a sucker for 1st person narratives although that in itself is no guarantee of good writing but the narrative in Mimic is really good. All the more impressive when you realize that it's ten...

    ⚠️ Reviews Wanted ⚠️

I read the prologue and first chapter of Ultrabeasts and will tell you my thoughts based on that. First, the good; you can construct readable sentences and you understand how paragraphs work. I didn't have a difficult understanding what was going and the story flows from paragraph to paragraph...

    Free First Chapter Feedback (V2)

Calling someone beautiful isn't sexualizing them. At any age. How is it okay to call a newborn beautiful but if you say the same thing about a toddler it's pedophilia? The logic isn't logicing.

    Are novels getting worse or…

I get the distinction, my point was all too many, maybe even the majority of, amateur writers who write fantasy or science fiction start off with reams of exposition introducing the world the story is set in. It's how I realized tons of exposition is a bad thing to write. If it's something I...

What's wrong with the writing style and integrity of the Chinese and Japanese authors nowadays?

There are different ways of translating things, that's how you end up with many, many different versions of the Bible, for example. That's an issue for translators to argue over. But despite different versions of translations they still obey the basic rules of English. True, not everything...

    Are novels getting worse or…

Ugh, world building. Generally, world building in manga is tolerable simply due to the constraints of the format. In prose there's nothing stopping the writer hitting you with 10k words of exposition right out of the starting gate (often labeled as a prologue). The moment I see that it's time...

What's wrong with the writing style and integrity of the Chinese and Japanese authors nowadays?

Doesn't matter what the original language is, if it's being translated into English it should be formatted for what's normal in English. "Originally it's from X language." So what? I'm not reading it X language, I'm reading it in English. There's no law and people are free to do whatever but...

    Are novels getting worse or…

I agree that coming up with weird gimmicks in order to be "original" is not the key to writing a good story. There isn't anything really new anyway. Even isekai, which is a relatively new genre, isn't really new in concept. Character A travels to a new world or land is a concept as old as...

    Are novels getting worse or…

8 trillion 'I was kicked from the hero party' or 'I was born as the otome villainess' isekai stories later you get the feeling that just maybe it's all crap recycled to nth degree. For a fairly recent genre isekai has become extremely unoriginal quite quickly. Can't think of an actual plot for a...

What Kind of Characters do you Gravitate Towards?

For me characters mostly define themselves and grow or evolve through interactions with other characters. And that involves lots and lots of dialogue. There's also growth through experiencing life as well but I write reams of dialogue. For me one things I really enjoy is seeing how characters...

Im begging, no im STARVING for feedbacks

First I'll mention what's good. You seem to be able to construct sentences that are mostly coherent and grammatically okay. There is some issues with punctuation and words incorrectly capitalized, however. The first thing I will mention about what's wrong is the spacing between paragraphs. Not...

    high vs low review scores

Than reading something good? You're in luck then. Sturgeon's Law states that 90% of everything is shit. And that's back when books had to pass through an editor and proofreader long before even being considered for publishing. Now your uncle's dog can write a pile of crap and publish it...
