As an author, how do you feel when writing villains who commit crimes or immoral acts?

They're the villains. That's their job. Heroes wouldn't exist without villains (just as light cannot exist without darkness). Villains can be outrageous and over-the-top (a la Austin Powers or James Bond). They can also be normal people who lost their way somewhere (Adrian Veidt, Watchmen).

Writing idk how to start writing

Start small. Write a short story (less than 5000 words). There's no need to plough headfirst into a novel when you're just starting out. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. https://peterlyledehaan.com/writing-tips/categories-of-fiction-and-length/

Writing I have one chapter to make my wife cry

You have no control over someone else's behavior. Imagine two people riding a rollercoaster. One person is scared to death and wants off in the worst way. The person sitting next to them is screaming, having fun, and eager to ride again. Different readers can have different responses to the...

Does this sound like a My Hero Academia rip off

To paraphrase Picasso, "Good authors copy, great authors steal." ? In all seriousness, there is nothing truly "original". Everything is derived from something else. I wouldn't worry too much about it. ?

What are your first books you read that impacted you?

Nineteen Eighty-Four (George Orwell) The imagery was decades ahead of its time.

Is it true that some authors spend time describing a character eating breakfast or the texture of toast?

*** Visions of Batman eating breakfast with the Joker. ***

Is it true that some authors spend time describing a character eating breakfast or the texture of toast?

Peter Jackson infamously cut down to a few seconds of screentime a scene that Tolkien had spent fifty pages describing in Lord of the Rings. I'm not crazy about writing romance, either.

How do you design iconic characters?

It's the FANS that make icons ... not YOU. Hollywood has tried for decades to create "iconic" characters right out of the box, only to crash and burn in the process (See: Eragon, Legend, Free Spirit, You Wish, Scorch, etc.). Fans know knockoffs when they see them ... and they don't like it.

    Originality in Fantasy

I am a SALIVATING fan of I Dream of Jeannie (I specifically prefer the universe set in the two TV-movies that aired after the show -- I Dream of Jeannie: Fifteen Years Later and I Still Dream of Jeannie). That's the jumping-off point of my stories: a twenty-three-hundred-year-old genie is...

    Originality in Fantasy

Nothing is "original" ... NOTHING. Everything you see is derived from something else (J.R.R. Tolkien derived the Lord of the Rings from Anglo-Saxon mythology, specifically Beowulf). What do you like? What appeals to you? Take what you know (or what appeals to you) and recombine it (Magic and...

Writing Try this fun creativity exercise!

I read The Catcher in the Rye, Nineteen Eighty-Four, Brave New World, and Lord of the Flies. I love Nineteen Eighty-Four. The imagery was DECADES ahead of its time! :blob_aww:

What is your favourite fantasy race/creature?

Genies. I like the duality of mystical creatures having to assume a human disguise to function in our modern world.

What's the scariest book you've ever read?

    The Exorcist (William Peter Blatty)
