Do authors want readers to point out spelling/typos in comments?

Part of me thinks I might be helping proof read. On the other hand it feels like it could be taken as nit-picking. Is it helpful or annoying?
I had one before, which is kinda helpful.

But as the chapters go by, he got pretty assertive and would correct me on words I really meant to write.

So I guess just don't get full of themselves, and they'll be helpful.

Yes! Don't be a dick about it, but the entire point of posting here before attempting to publish is to make sure your book is good enough to publish.

It's helpful IMO, even tho I am reading my work too many times before I publish it, I always miss some things :D it's okay tho, I kinda like it, makes it even more mine if that makes sense

I personally like it. Feels good to see someone read the chapter, and took enough care to spot and tell me about mistakes I made.

definitely helpful.

its in particular the close real words that slip by the spellchecker, so close they zip by on an edit reading pass. I notice "abut" in place of "about" happens with how my grubby little fingers work my keyboard. Why "the the" when its in just the right place can slip by reading at speed, I don't know but it does.

I have no problem with spelling errors. mention them. I have the exact same text file in my folder for that book, its a simple matter. i "search" and type in your word you found. It either lands on it auto, or I just tap "next' and it finds it. Fix, save file. Next time I upload it, its better. I don't know about every other author, my aim is to have a "perfect" print novel in the end. My ultimate goal is KU, where that will be necessary for my book to as closely resemble a print ready book as I can make it.

to tell a family secret? If a reader nitpicks and gloats, whatever. they're still working for my benefit.

It depends on how they do it - polite and helpful? Yes, please - especially if they also point out some positive things.
Negative and mocking? Go read something else then.

Yes, please. Edit for me too. This is not sarcastic. I don't edit. Free spellcheck, and grammar editorial staff? Yes, please.

Here is something that you all should do.

Leave typos in. I leave every typo my patreon members point out in, and only fix the original text in my documents, so the ebook at the end will be good.

The online stuff remains flawed (until pointed out), so then those mistakes are picked up by the readers, and they comment about it.

Engagement is engagement... don't sleep on it.

Pointing out typos seems a lot like the “Honey do I look fat in this dress?” question. Information wanted but… Sometimes the most helpful thing might be to ignore any imperfections and go with "you look great in anything”. I guess I'll just play it by ear.

I have system level spell check so spelling mistakes are usually either intentional or me making up words. Even in cases I use the wrong homophone that might be intentional, for example I spell "raising the dead" as "razing the dead" because that sounds so much more gothic and cool. Grammatical corrections are always appreciated though, particularly stuff like quote marks not correctly marking quote boundries

be logical.
is it better when they're nice about it? sure. result, you get to correct something.
is it not as good when they're rude? sure. but result, you still get to correct something.
note that the result is identical.
the only down side, is getting butt hurt.
i want results, how I get them is largely immaterial, within reason of course.

I get it. Tread lightly and be pretty damn sure before saying anything. Even then make it a suggestion, just in case. Honestly, if I say anything, I'd want a positive response before ever doing it again.

What @CharlesEBrown meant was that a good suggestion is when the suggestion points out directly what is wrong within a chapter and that's it.

A bad one, however, is when the suggestion doesn't really points out the problems within the chapter and instead kept on blabbering about how bad the author's narration is.
