Just realized I've been talking to myself a LOT whenever I'm reading a story. What do you think about it?

Mental asylum escapee. Anyone thinking it's quirky, no it's not. When you see someone talking and mumbling to themselves while approaching you, your fight or flight instinct will kick into overdrive, believe me.

Not like that :moai:
Talking to yourself in public is a speedrun strat on getting no friends, but like just talking to myself when doing something. I think it should classify similarly to random singing(?)

In fact, you can't brainstorm (to evaluate your story ideas) without talking to yourself.

I think they're either:
A. streamers
B. Have aphantasia
C. Are REALLY, REALLY smart and solving something aloud for clarity
or D. They will murder me, cut me up into pieces, stuff me in a blender, and grind my bones to paint their bedroom wall in my blood if I go near them.

Although, now that I think about it, It kind of depends on the time, scene, and context of when I see them. lol

I was reading one article about how in America, it viewed as a sign that one is capital c Crazy. Americans are also k own as having complete lack of self knowledge. In Europe, though, I think they said France, talking to yourself is normal.

To me it's only weird when you see then, say hi to them, and they are shut out. The on the earpiece distracted phenomenon. I talk to myself some when I'm trying to do "okay, I need to buy eggs, then go to the library, then get some musical instruments..." Reminders. No, I dunno either what the deal was with musical instruments, that was the joke.

I used to talk to myself more. But nowadays I say stuff to myself when I remember I have to do something or I’ve forgotten something or I’m an idiot for forgetting something. So it’s not really weird talking to yourself as long as you don’t argue with yourself aloud like you have two minds instead of one because that’s mental illness.

Yeah, that's pretty weird. I once read some chat messages on youtube about a dude trying to rizz up a girl by talking to himself ON A VOICE NOTE HE'S SENDING TO THE GIRL and it was so f*cking weird. The guy would hype himself up, literally glazing his ass so hard it made me, a man, uncomfortable.

I swear I read an article somewhere where it was seen as a sign of intelligence, or that it was common for people who are intelligent to frequently hold one-sided conversations with themselves. Or something. Not sure if it was true or not, considering most studies are unreliable and cater to one bias or another, or to whomever funded the study's own preconceived views.

But anyway, I talk to myself frequently. Normally I'm alone when I do so, or if I'm in public, I do it under my breath.

I had a teacher in one of my high schools that would randomly in the middle of a lecture, go on a tangent about something unrelated to the subject matter, but he wasn't speaking to or addressing anyone else in the class that I was aware of. When doing so, he never seemed to be looking at or speaking to one of us. No idea if he was talking to himself, or to something/someone that no one else could perceive. Didn't think much of it. He did this at least once a week, sometimes more, so it was relatively frequent.

A few students complained about it to the school administration, but nothing happened because beyond these little oddities, he was an excellent teacher and most students taking his class scored fairly well at the end of the year so, there wasn't really any problem with him beyond the petty sensitivities of a few classmates. I liked him. I even had a few conversations with him one on one, and I can swear on at least two of the occasions, he was speaking not just to me, but a third person that I couldn't see. And on one of those two occasions, I swear I saw someone or something out of the corner of my eye move around in the room with us.

Maybe he was crazy. Maybe I am too. Doesn't really matter. Craziness is affirmed, nurtured, celebrated and catered too in the modern world nowadays. At least he took his crazy home with him at the end of the day and kept it to himself for the most part. Can't say the same for others.

Now days, most of the people you think are talking to themselves are on the phone. Heck, I saw a panhandler using blue tooth ear piece and a cell phone in lap openly while collecting handouts at the exit of a strip mall at the light stop.

This. Or they're actually crazy. Talking to yourself like someone else is there seems like a legit way to not get mugged or stalked at night, tho.
