I am kinda aware how some popular websites like Wattpad and Webnovels have overrated romantic works (such as Drama, Soft Ones) other than some of the fantasy, action, and anything else (except romances) that aren't pretty overrated on the Internet nowadays, and most readers in the Internet are now young girls and boys who are very grateful to the popular things that the cliches are always repeating everytime and everywhere (most especially the slow kiss pace, "OH! I STUMBLED SOME HANDSOME GUY WHO SAVED ME FROM MY CLUMSINESS.", "Mmmmm, what a nice and sexy guy with his handsome look and six-packs of wonder! Wish I will hit him soon enough!", and many kinds of rip-off version of Romeo and Juliet in terms of setting.).

No no no, I'm not really mad about this genre and these works that are now popularly overrated nowadays, but it seems sometimes we might feel downfall to these repetitive and continuous popular genre that outwitted us with numbers of readers in their particular taste.... *sigh* Looks like we have to face against their "trendy" taste, so that people will understand more on life other than sole romance.

Then you have not gone through the phase that is Xianxia repetition and don't worry, after reading much more works that is in NovelUpdates, you will feel even deader to newer works as the deja vu keeps surfacing.

ah, such fresh members to the 'apathy club'. You've taken the first step in a path that will lead to great novel apathy and a strict refining of your novel senses to be able to recognize trash novels from synopsis and tags alone.

It is a long, tough path but it is worth it. @NotaNuffian is right, wait till you reach the xianxia stage.

People need wider aspects of so-called inner demons and realism.

what about the abusive relationships of a forgiving fl and self absorbed jackass

when it comes to romance, i look up the gay stuff most of the time.

they tend to get stale after a certain amount, that's why i stuck to those that are more comedy than the romance.

stuff like the shameless prince is pretty genius, even though i don't really read bl.

as for the gl, i enjoy the surreal comedy on yuru yuri.

for the romance, i think we need more of the relationship between someone wth an inanimate object. in particular, i'm waiting for a story that perfectly described the love between a man and his airbag.

Try to tell me something and I don't already know. :blob_evil_two:

Btw Romeo and Juliet is a rip off from Pyramus and Thisbe from Ovid, which is based on an already existing myth.

Everything ever written is basically a rip off from something else.

Well, there are minor ripp offs. And there are major ripp offs. Shakespeare falls into the latter category though.

The tragedy of Romeo and Juliet ultimately sprang from Ovid's story. Here the star-crossed lovers cannot be together because Juliet has been engaged by her parents to another man and the two families hold an ancient grudge. As in Pyramus and Thisbe, the mistaken belief in one lover's death leads to consecutive suicides. The earliest version of Romeo and Juliet was published in 1476 by Masuccio Salernitano, while it mostly obtained its present form when written down in 1524 by Luigi da Porto. Salernitano and Da Porto both are thought to have been inspired by Ovid and Boccaccio's writing.[3] Shakespeare's most famous 1590s adaptation is a dramatization of Arthur Brooke's 1562 poem The Tragical History of Romeus and Juliet, itself a translation of a French translation of Da Porto's novella.[4]

The curse of people who reads a lot. When you read a lot, you recognize the patterns and trends. The more you read, the more you recognize, the more pronounced is the curse.

The less exposed people are quite lucky. These tropes are still quite new to them. And you know what? We start like this. The first encounter of those tropes fills us with eagerness and we gladly devour them. After encountering the trope for umpteenth time . . . we go to forums like this.

I'm not interested in Xianxia, but when I look over it, it's full of handsome princes and beautiful princesses together.

I only(seriously) read one xianxia 700 chapter or more and it is still amazing.
(Cultivation World, which I haven't finished)

But if I go to the second I knew that I will encounter the same thing, just that its not good as the first one.

Same goes for korean vrmmorpg, Light novel which has the genre harem x fantasy(reincarnate/transported).

One advice; if you read a popular and well scripted story. Be prepared for the mistakes of the novel you are about to read next(of the same genre)
That mistakes could be "same trope, bad character, no direction, etc"

"Daddy why is it that the novel you read are very distinguishable to other novels?"
(Note:I wanted to say -very different- on the 'distinguishable')
"Well it's because I just find most novels of the same genre too bad so I just pick the best and very unique to be put on my shelf, of course I had to pay the author to get the physical copy :)"
"I understand. Daddy is amaz..."
"Go to bed son -__-"

Just write what you want and enjoy what you write, no point in worrying about what genres are and aren't popular, you should just make sure you enjoy what you're writing~

I mean, plenty of those in the dungeon core genre, surely. If the core doesn’t move itself = inanimate, but it still retains personality so love is a real element rather than say, ‘mr’ dildo, you and I are the perfect couple.’

I’ve even got it in the gay variety. Surely I can’t be the only one!

Well, that technically works, but I never saw an airbag shaped Dungeon Core... >.>

Sounds like it’s time to write one then! That Time I Was Reincarnated As A Car’s Airbag with BL and Dungeon Core tags is only waiting for the air to get stale enough that people will actually write it!

Swords, onsen, walls that start yuri kabedons... it really isn’t all that ‘out there’ these days, and that isn’t even including the dungeon core genre! I’ve seen trees get dungeon core mechanics of their own!

How far are we really from a possessed airbag in an ecchi setting? The only thing thing stopping ‘mister dildo my childhood friend’ from taking off in the Dungeon genre is the 50%+ smut stuff, and how strongly that’s enforced is rather ‘questionable’, never to mind that so called ‘lolis’ are in titles: what’s stopping us from writing the best airbag dungeon core romance that nobody every wanted?

Think of how it could spend its points on improving the car... and it gets points whenever the car is fuelled up or old ladies are run over! It’s a perfect villain!

I would love to see my idea implemented, or rather to see my theory verified. :blob_aww:

I would never! O___O

I cannot think of a story I would LESS like to write! Okay, that's untrue, but that's only because I can make it progressively worse simply by adding extra bits to it. '+genderbent +loli airbag dungeon core BL romance +cultivation @___@
