On a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being My Immortal and 10 being [insert the greatest author alive here], how would you rate your own writing?

If we're looking at this in terms of webfiction, and 5 is what's considered the norm in terms of quality, I'd say that puts (good) professionally published books at a 7 or an 8. I want to say I deserve a 7, but my gut tells me that's a bit of a stretch, so I'll go with a 6.

The stories I published, maybe 5 or 6? Hard to say from my own perspective. I would have definitely given myself a better rating some year or two ago, but I have improved a lot since.

9/11... what? too soon?
Jokes aside. I dont rate my own stuff, that is the reader job. Since the reader havent came asking for more nor expressed their opinion I would say they dont like it, that means 1/10.

I would say… a 6 also LOL. I think I could box in the 7-7.5 weight class if I really put my head down and worked on some of my more glaring perennial issues (pacing…), but as is, I would stick myself in “okay, but not exceptional” jail.

Occasionally a chapter or a part of a chapter can be as high as 8. Most of the time, I'm probably closer to 5.

There's no objective answer. Reading is a subjective experience. But for me, if you provide a reading that's not just entertaining but memorable because it resonates with real-life situations, I wouldn't hesitate to give it a 9/10.

I would rate my early chapters as 6-7, before I edited or re-wrote them.

I would rate my current work as 7-8, with maybe the occasional section of 9.

I'm far from perfect (or my editor wouldn't have to put in so much work), but I am constantly improving.

Then, of course, there is the matter of taste. My ratings assume someone who enjoys slice of life and romantic elements mixed into an epic/high fantasy story rather liberally. Someone who doesn't like those elements would probably rate my writing lower just for being 'too slow'.
