The Man Who Existed by Existing

Harold was alive by being in a state of not being dead.

He woke up because being awake meant he had opened his eyes while not being asleep.

He walked into the kitchen by having used his legs to transport himself into the kitchen-space.

He made coffee by making coffee in the manner one makes coffee.

He drank it because the act of drinking involves consuming liquids intentionally.

He enjoyed the coffee by experiencing joy due to enjoying it.

Then he stared at the wall by facing a vertical structure while using his eyes to behold its wall-ness.

Thinking thoughts occurred because his brain was engaged in the activity of thought-having.

He reflected on his life by reflecting upon the experiences he had experienced in life.

“Today is today,” he muttered, because the day that was today was, in fact, the current day.

He got dressed by applying clothing to his body in order to be dressed.

The pants were on because they had been successfully worn in the way pants are worn.

The socks clung to his feet by virtue of foot-clinging sock behavior.

He tied his shoes because shoes that are tied require tying to become tied.

Then he left the house by exiting the house in a manner consistent with house-leaving.

Outside was outside because it was not inside and thus occupied the space known as “out.”

The sun was shining due to the sun engaging in the process of shining.

Harold squinted by narrowing his eyes in reaction to the bright light that caused him to squint.

He walked down the street by advancing along the street in a walking fashion.

Each step was a step because it was a movement made by stepping.

He encountered a neighbor who was neighboring in a neighbor-like way.

They greeted one another by saying greetings in the act of mutual greeting.

“How are you?” asked the neighbor by asking how Harold was.

“I’m being fine by being in a state of fine-being,” Harold replied with existential certainty.

They nodded at each other by moving their heads in a nodding motion to express head-nodding agreement.

Harold continued walking by continuing to walk with continued motion.

He reached the store by arriving at the store's location through the act of reaching.

He went inside by no longer being outside and transitioning into the state of being inside.

The store was a store because it sold things in a place where things are sold.

He picked up a loaf of bread by lifting the bread from its resting place using a pick-up motion.

He chose that loaf by selecting it due to the choice he made to choose it.

At the counter, he paid for it by giving money in exchange for ownership transfer via payment.

The cashier thanked him by expressing thanks in the way cashiers typically thank.

He said “you’re welcome” because he had welcomed the thanks with a welcome response.

Back outside, he walked home by returning to his home via walking in a home-returning direction.

Once home, he sat in his chair by lowering himself into a sitting position atop the chair.

The bread sat on the table by resting upon the table surface with bread-like stillness.

Harold stared at it by looking in its direction with intentional bread-staring effort.

He thought to himself, “I exist right now by existing in this current moment of existence.”

And that, to Harold, was enough reason to feel content by being contented with feeling content.
