I think the biggest thing people have to ask when it comes to writing is whether they enjoy reading it.

If you don’t enjoy reading your own writing, others probably won’t either.

That only applies for a story that you intend to be for an audience that you fit in with, like writing a horror story if you dislike all forms of horrors and then using your opinion of horror as a measurement of how good the horror is not really that good of an idea.
The example might be rather bad but I just want to highlight differences in taste, talking to someone who can be seen as median among the audience you want to write for is more useful, then again this part of writing psychology in not my strength by the virtue of me just believing that there are writers that write things they don't personally enjoy.
