Disable blocking comments and reviews?

I don't understand why authors get the privilege of blocking comments they don't like. I understand if there is a site wide asshole and moderators, but If put a bad review on something that is a service to the other readers and the author should shape up not have a mental breakdown. There is not new tags with all this AI bullshit sweeping the wn community.

You can't block comments directly. What you can do, is block people who are harassing you, which incidentally prevents them from commenting on or reviewing your stories.

Insults like this are not a 'service' to anyone. This kind of thing is exactly why authors should be allowed to block people.

By what? Blocking every single potential reader on the site? Impossible. The only reason an author would have to block someone is if they already did or said something malicious.
If they're blocking people who are giving actual, constructive criticism though? Then the only person who really suffers is the author, and they're already being punished for their mistake.

So in all, let it go. It's not a problem. And even if it were, it's not your problem.

You know that I can read behind the lines, I see it as more likely that you insulted someone, if an author actually did something unjust and you were angry because of it, like you gave a review that the story is rather stereotypical and it is, I feel more like you would have taken a different route and asked more something like that a reader should be able to appeal. Furthermore your personality seems to align with such actions from what I have seen here.

• Authors can remove comments and block users from commenting as they should. It's their story, they can moderate their own comment section as they like, even if YOU don't like it. Do you feel it's unfair? Yeah, could be. Sure. So what? Ignore such authors and move on.

The staff. Reviews are not for you to attack others. Personal attacks, insults, or other inappropriate content in a review will result in the review being removed if reported.

Tony. The owner and moderator. If you leave a review that doesn't break the guidelines Tony won't delete it. Even if you are blocked after leaving a review it will stay. If you broke the guidelines Tony will remove it, doesn't matter whether you are blocked or not.

As for comments, I don't get why you would need to keep them up. Comments are more of a treat for an author rather than some kind of 'tool' to 'save' other readers. Authors need them more than readers, so if they block someone either they miss out, or it was an asshole. Lastly, you can block spammers that promote crap, signing contracts, offer paid art, and so on.

Not entirely true. Blocking a user will also prevent them from adding new reviews or editing old ones on any of your stories.
What it will NOT do is remove any reviews or comments made by that person before they were blocked.

Are they blocked on the main site, and not just the forum? Was the review posted before you blocked them? You don't have to answer, those are just the first things that I thought of.
If neither of those are the issue, you should try reporting it as a bug to Tony (not with the intention of removing the review, but of fixing an actual glitch, lol).

Of course. I blocked him because of his idiotic comments. It was so bad that his was the first to not get pinned and make me mock him but outright delete them.

For obvious reasons, this feature should remain. Assholes should not be given free reign to bring down amateur authors. Authors share their work on this site for free, they should not be harassed for it by people who think they deserve award-winning quality for free or have nothing better to do.

This kind of mentality that authors should 'git gud' is the reason why RRL is such a hellish place.

There's definitely people out there that feel entitled to being an asshole, and get very offended if you do not willingly endure their terrible treatment of you.

This individual seems to be that type.

There is also a large group of people out there that feel their negative opinion of something gives the license to be belligerent, cruel, and unkind to others under the guise of "helping" other readers avoid something that they disliked.

This individual strikes me as one of these types.

Well not all comments are helpful. I deleted comments because they're very obviously bots or would be scammers. Also people could say unrelated things on there too. Like discriminatory comments or personal insults. Putting your content on here doesn't mean you deserve to be one-sidely harassed.

It's one thing if you are giving honest feedback. But if it's insulting or bordering on insulting, then there's no need for that. If someone is erasing just feedback, then that hurts them. It won't hurt the readers if they don't see it, just the author. As someone who's read a lot of bad books, it's simple if I read a book that is bad but didn't give me warning from the reviews or comments. I just stop reading it. Or make an honest review or rating (without insults). It's that easy. You can be a reader without be a jerk.

As for reviews, while I'm new on here, it's my understanding that they don't remove those unless the website moderator thinks the review has broken the rules of the website.

In his defense, he probably wasn't talking about a review being removed but rather him not being able to review because he's blocked. I once tried to change a 3-star rating to a 4-star because I felt the story was improving, and I realized I couldn't review, rate, or comment because the author had blocked me. I guess he'll keep the 3-star rating.

He probably made an alt account then; you can't give an honest review if you've been blocked by an author. Any review already made gets to stay though. I will never know why Popsicle69 blocked me. I only ever said a positive thing in his comments; I was going to leave a 5-star review. I was glad that he was remaking (doing his own take on) WritingSimulator's story.

Oh, those guys are the worst. You did him a favor by blocking him (maybe he can read something else now rather than obsess over you. LOL). I can understand not enjoying a story, but begging and threatening the author to change it to suit them is hella weird.
