Not sure its a trope but I hate it when evil characters try to justify the messed up stuff they did.

"Oh no you see. I had to boil those elven children alive because elves abused me in school" or something like that. Yeah what they did was messed up but you still boiled children alive. If your gonna make an evil character let them own it.
Not just own it but justify it as saving the world, something that only our hero / villain is able to do. Also accept that they are an arsehole and go with it. By justifying it as saving the world you can say stuff like by boiling these elven children alive what we are doing is preventing them from turning to in dark elves and summoning the evil demon lord, so we save them by boiling them in holy water, that way their souls can be saved by god's grace. Add some villain thing like if I no one will save the planet kingdom country, ill myself will boil them all to do it.

Pokemon harem trope. You see the girl for ten chapters then they disappear forever. Rinse and repeat.
Incest. Especially the well she's my step sister so technically she's not blood related stuff.

Any trope involving Love triangles, Love squares, Love pentagons, Love hexagons, Love heptagons, Love octagons, love nonagons, love decagons...

The "I'm a completely useless person until I'm rejected and cast aside, then I become OP" trope.

The "man surpassing the gods" trope.

Those are all I can think of for now.
This plus the entire isekai genre.

Status bars like an RPG.

Carbon copy fantasy with no worldbuilding.

Redoing stories to be "modern". Trying to rush the novel.

My most hated trope:

I hide my true abilities so they don’t know I’m awesome and can keep bullying me.

Could be worse, they could be trying to kill you nonstop because of your abilities. Kinda have to choose your poison at that point. :meowsip:

The Isekai protagonist is a psychopath who has no qualms about killing a person.
Protagonist doesn't behave like a human being.
Story shows clear political agenda.
Gender Bender that exists solely for the tag, but otherwise doesn't matter.
Gender Bender without body dysphoria, where MC directly starts partying.
Story got a girl on the cover, but is actually about a guy.
Story got girls on the cover, and MC is the guy far, far in the backside corner.
Story got girl on the cover who doesn't even matter In the story, while protagonist is some alpha male (seriously, I think someone should start posting covers with males, while the story is about some cute anime girl!)
I think you just like men. Nothing wrong with that, just saying.

No. Anyone would be taken in as a treasure in an actual scenario like that to be nurtutred. But as an MC that is not happening it is reserved for the villain.

I don’t know, the possibility is always out there. :meowsip:

Actually, I prefer female protagonists, and am usually disappointed if I get a man in disguise.
Especially, if they take me for an idiot by selling the plot.

I like killing intent as a radar.

Not so much as emitter.
Yea, it used to be shown as a spidey sense type thing in old stories.

It got weird when it's shown as an attack in modern stories

I love academy stories. I love the camaraderie they encourage. I love the setting for a coming-of-age story. That can-do spirit. Young love! They're all so great.

I hate how the teachers are portrayed. They're either bad guys out to get the students or good guys who chuckle at the suffering at the hands of the bad guys. And at the end of the day, they're all incompetent. You telling me a wizard with decades of experience can't outsmart a student with an invisibility cloak?

So, as a former student who had plenty of great teachers and as a former teacher who gave my all to my students, I've written an academy story from the other side: the dreaded teacher!

I mean... That's kind of their character... They are 'evil'
I get that but if your character is evil. I think its better when they own it. Look at freeza from drangon ball. He took full credit for blowing up the saiyan planet. He did it try to justify it with some holier than thou reason he just blew it up because he wanted to

I just remembered another scourge that sometimes enters my eyes: different timeline multiverses.

Multiple universes is one thing, but anything with the "different universes where different actions were chosen" concept is dumb.

Why? I mean, that was an initial theme (before it went gonzo crazy) in "Everything, Everywhere, All at Once" and that was not a "dumb" movie at all.

I haven't watched "everything, everywhere, all at once", so I can't comment on that specifically, sorry.

For the general case, it's just that the concept itself has no merit to it.

Even in a harem, I could see it's possible to explore various themes like jealousy or unrequited love, but what about a timeline multiverse? I cannot see a single reason to include that specific form of time travel/ multiverse. At the end of the day, it just doesn't do anything except diminish the concept of a person.
