Everything.
Because hand no make proper what brain think
Because hand no make proper what brain think
The hardest part is just doing it. I spend a lot of time thinking things through, but not enough time just writing it. The more attached I get to the story, the harder writing becomes for me as I start to second-guess every little thing, and writing becomes really slow. I should just do it. It’s better to write a bad story than no story at all.For me, I hate coming up with a title. Sometimes it's easy. As I'm writing, a title pops into my head (such as with DragonBound). Other times, I start with the title (Lay the Dragon). But more often than not, neither of these are the case, and I end up going through like 4-10 working titles before finally settling on one that's "not as bad". which kinda sucks because now I have work for the same story under 4-10 different titles, plus the final title on my computer.
And for note, I don't mean things outside of active progress. Yeah, we all hate that lack of motivation, or trying to find time without distractions to write, but I mean actively making progress to prepare the story for consumption by your readers—titling, cover art, planning, plotting, storyboarding, etc.
I actually have that problem with sex scenes myself... Which is why most of mine or more ... poetic ... than smut. What I hate is combat or action scenes. I have to really think about every step, how it should flow, how to not be boring and repetitive. It's draining.
PTSD triggered.Having to comb through 300 chapters to find if I had already named a character or just mentioned it in passing. Then, after not finding anything and giving him a name and background, the moment I publish it, someone tells me that I had, in fact, named him, and he wasn't like this.
Then, for the next time, I write down the name in a note but then, when I check later, I already forgotten what I did with him so… reread it is. Again.
Sameee.I actually kind of hate everything about writing (the actual writing part itself, specifically). I much prefer the world building before hand, and the editing/redrafting after. Writing the initial prose is like pulling teeth.
Eh, I actually prefer it that way. I post chapters once a week so I don't procrastinate. But I hope no readers find it and read it. Cuz I'll edit it a thousand times more later, and it sucks when readers come back and go, 'was this completely changed?'Actually the WORST part of writing is putting something out there and getting crickets. Just crickets. Maybe some views, but that's it. No interaction, no feedback... just crickets.
Same. We must be the same person.I wanted to die.
Let me guess, Wattpad?See? If you write something, and it sucks, but nobody reads it...
You don't feel bad! You can just abandon it! But noooooo, readers always come to read the slop I wrote when I was 13, and they complain and comment, and later I come back to my account to find several k notifs and I want to SCREAM BUT I CAN'T DELETE THIS SLOP AND I DON'T EVEN WANT TO LOOK AT IT AGAIN.
SO IT STAYS THERE, ABANDONED, WITH MY ENTIRE ACCOUNT, CUZ I CAN'T USE IT WITHOUT SOME COMMENT COMING AT ME AGAIN GOING OH? WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO UPDATE? NEVER, YOU CURSED THINGS! NEVER!
READ THE GOOD STUFF I WROTE INSTEAD, OR LEAVE ME BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
Anyway, there are big positives to having your work be unpopular. Be happy. Embrace them.
Yes. Gimme hug...Let me guess, Wattpad?
I mean, that looks good? Gives me an image of a blonde rich girl immediately. Since you emphathize shiny jewelry, I imagine she has the big fancy stuff, too.I'm extremely, and I mean extremely good at comedic writing and combat writing. But those two never mix, all of my stories have these two elements which made the combat less serious, that can only be lessened if the character is a veteran who jokes to cope.
And I'm absolutely terrible at describing characters.
I got a clear image in mind, but I don't know the words to describe that image of a human being.
It's an easy fix, I can just use my local language (Vietnamese) and translate it into English.
But seriously, I don't know what a "mũi tẹt" "mũi cao" "mũi to" looks like, and what the hell is "cằm nhọn" "cằm chẻ"???
What the fuck is "layered" hair, "smooth hair" "curly" hair I don't even know and just put words in randomly.
My visual library of human image, even fantasy is weak and I don't know how to improve, or, I can improve but I'm just too lazy to try.
Here's one of the latest characters I've described.
She looked up from the ground and saw a fellow female student, a blonde human with blue eyes. She had earrings, rings, and other shiny jewelry, signs of a noble or at least a wealthy young lady.
Ya think so? Glad to hear, but I'm just concerned that after 3 characters like that, people are just gon remember their name and feel, not any other traits D: And there's a lot of characters with the same personalityI mean, that looks good? Paragraphs of exposition about every curve in a character's body is bad writing. But you aren't doing that. You are doing very well.![]()
Name and feel are all that matters in a novel. Long character descriptions are boring. So don't worry.Ya think so? That's because you are not a human being.I got a clear image in mind, but I don't know the words to describe that image of a human being.
