I'm not sure if it quite holds up to when I first read it, but The Novel's Extra actually blew me away the first time I've read it :blob_cookie: It's a Korean one with some cliches but man I loved it lol

Shadow Slave or Red Rising. Shadow Slave probably needs no introduction, and red rising is exactly the type of novel i like - a dystopia in which one oppressed person fights back against the force that oppresses them, from the inside. similar novels include the one with the guy that only has 4 fears (i forgor the name) or maybe hunger games

Dragonsong, it was the first Dragonriders of Pern book I had read and I won't go into much detail but the fantasy of escaping a terrible life resonated with a young me.

It's not the best written book out there but it will always hold a special place in my heart.

Core .001, but it's unfortunately already for 5 1/2 years on hiatus. But I could never forget it.

Regarding ongoing novels: A Practical Guide to Sorcery is quite well-made.

It's hard to say something your of all time because with time something else can come along to blow your expectations so I'm gonna list three.

The Authors Pov (have some minor issues but over all it's great inspired by the novels extra which is great)

The Runesmith (Again some personal pet peeves but over all decent, if I found something that scratches my itch better I would replace it but I haven't yet)

The Cradle series by will wight I got into by random and really enjoyed it.

Mistborn: The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson. I've loved every book of his that I've read, but IMO Mistborn (particularly the first one) hit exactly the right notes the most consistently. As much as I love Stormlight Archive, I have to admit that they're too long to really work with his style. Mistborn is exactly the right length. It's equal parts action and worldbuilding, with a magic system that's both the easiest to understand and the most flexible, and a cast of quirky but well rounded characters.

Martin Chuzzlewit. Because the least popular of Dicken's novels is simply packed with social commentary while being oddly humorous. The ending is pure catharsis. I never hated a character much more than Mr. Pecksniff and him meeting his financial demise through an insurance company investment was a great feeling.

As far as actual books go it's difficult for me to formulate an answer. If pressed on in actual conversation I'd probably say something generic like the asoiaf series.

As far as light/web novels are it depends.

My favorite jp light novel is 'The Insipid Prince's Furtitive Grab for the throne'. (Name has a few translations but that's the official one.)

Favorite Korean now is 'How to Live as a Knight after the ending'

A bit of a hot take, but I don't read Chinese novels anymore because everything I've read so far has been dogshit garbage so I don't even give them a try anymore.

Honeslty don't read many western web novels yet. Haven't read enough to actually have a definitive favorite

Print? Tough call between Heinlein's "The Star Beast" (first science fiction novel I ever read, and the book I've probably read the most times), Heinlein's "Time Enough For Love" (though I did not really "get it" the first time) or Pohl Anderson's "Three Hearts and Three Lions" (partly because it's a pretty awesome proto-Isekai, and partly because of the impact it had on other authors and games that came later).
Serial/on-line? So far, despite its MANY flaws, "My Vampire System" if audionovels count. If not... well, really liked a silly little one that is not normally what I would read but Faerie Tales | Scribble Hub

Unpopular opinion : My favorite book is The Host by Stephenie Meyer, one of the best science fiction books I have ever read (Yes, she did Twilight, but did you read The Host ? An absolute banger !)

As far as webnovels goes, I started with 'Death is the only ending for a villainess', and it both made me fall in love with webnovels, but also terrified me of any 'angst' and 'drama' tag (it was good, but never again ! My heart can't take it !). And otherwise, I love 'Debut or Die', I was on the edge of my seat with all the plot twists and the original story telling in what appeared to be another idol story. And of course, my comfort read, 'I was mistaken as a monstruous genius actor'

Wow - before this, the closest thing to praise I heard for this was "Well, Meyer finally learned how to write." (and general dislike of the movie version - though it seems very similar to a K-drama with a lot of praise).

The film is awful. But the novel ? That's some incredible thing. Honestly, I was waiting for the second book, but I also understood when Meyer said she didn't know if she could. The first one was so impeccable in the description of the different worlds, and the reactions of the humans to the aliens envading them, that adding a follow up to that would be hard. If you mess up the world view, you will end up with a second Twilight

for series id have said broken empire or first law. for a standalone novel it's
either empire of ants or manifest delusions.

the first is from the prespective of an ant and it really is a phenomenal novel.

the second is about delusions becoming reality, and the more delusional you are, the stronger your power is. great and ingenious

Reverend Insanity.
