A Simple Speech & Void in the Heart (CLOSED)
Arriving at Asteria Village, we had to find a place to stay for the night but I couldn’t find any sort of inn. I asked the locals and they said that the village chief should have a spare house for guest visitors. I thanked them and went to the village chief’s house; it was easy to spot since it was the biggest of all the houses.
I met the chief and he offered us the guest house to which I gratefully accept. Arriving at the house that was lent to us, it looked more like a hut rather than a house; well beggars can’t be choosers. I checked the interior and it had basic necessities, a bed for one, a desk along with a chair, a window towards the back of the hut, and a torch hanging from the wall. Going around the hut outside, the back of the hut had a sort of dirty kitchen. Truly the basic necessities for a guest; we both settle in for night in the hut and removed our gear.
I don’t have any food I could cook with the kitchen at the back so we ate the rations we had saved up for the night. While I was eating the hard jerky, I think it’s time that Iris learned how to speak a little bit more properly. I really don’t want her creating any more misunderstanding in the future. She was sitting on the bed nibbling on the rationed jerky, and then I knelt and looked at her.
“Iris, I think it’s time you learned how to speak more properly.”
She tilted her head as if not understanding what I was talking about.
“Iris properly talk?....”
“Yea, properly talk and continuously.”
“Irs talk no good?.... Reival leave Iris?.....”
No I’m not gonna leave you. Why would you assume I would leave you just from a little mishap? Didn’t we just have this kind of argument before already? I’d rather not feel the frost from you freezing everything.
“No I’m not gonna leave. I just need you learn to talk more properly.”
She nods and I begin to explain to her punctuation, grammars, POVs, and a couple of new words. Well I say teach but we were pretty much having a chat. I would try to correct her after every sentence, kinda wish I was good in teaching this kind of stuff. We talked and talked for hours until my sleep deprivation started kicking in, I could barely open my eyes. I told her to call it a night and sleep on the bed; when she laid on the bed, I sat on the floor next to the bed while leaning my back against a wall. I immediately fall asleep only to wake up from something going near me, it was Iris sitting next to me while leaning her head on her shoulder. Sigh….. I’m too tired to even try putting her back to bed; I pull the blanket she left on the bed and covered her with. She cuddled my arm and we both fell asleep again.
We stayed in Asteria for a couple of and leisurely observed the farmers doing their farm work, while I occasionally teach Iris a vast majority of the time.
Looking at the village as a whole kinda reminds me of my village. I wonder if I would’ve been a proper chief for them. How much different would my life would have been? I guess it doesn’t matter anymore, I’m not there and it doesn’t exist even if I’m there.
Now that I’m here, should I even hate the ‘foreign’ for burning it all down? I doubt that they’ll be able to get here as an empire. I don’t know what to think about it, I don’t even know how to feel about it. What’s this feeling of dread and emptiness even though they won’t be able to harm nor find me again? I won’t ever have to fight them.
“Revial feel sad? Reival make a sad face. If Reival feel sad then Iris feel sad.”
Huh?....I didn’t notice that Iris was clinging to my shirt infront of me, albeit her face is rather close to mine. I guess I spaced out too much, that I caused her to worry. I placed my hand on her head to reassure her, and gently smiled at her
“Sorry, I was just thinking of something.”
She relaxed her grip on my shirt and went to my side, whilst one hand was clinging to the side of my shirt.
The next day comes and it was time to head back to Scribel once again.
