The suffering makes the happy moments better :>
It's because of Catharsis. There are not many instances of me to cry irl, so fictional media is a good way to purify (release) yourself, I suppose. Besides, Honkai impact isn't that depressing. It's not a story intended for an older audience.

Well, it's not like I actively want the characters to suffer. I still feel bad when the Main cast goes through tough times(unless it's torture for the sake of torture), but it just makes the happy moments in the story hit harder.

Like, I watch SoL with a blank face, but the moment two mercenaries who live in a murderous dystopian society experience even a trickle of happiness for a single chapter, I break into gleeful tears.

As I would describe it in my stories "You can't have pretty flowers without rain."
Yeah, understandable. I mean, even the stories we remember the best are usually the ones that made you go through a storm of emotions.

I'm just too soft and I tend to get very immersed so it always hits me on a slightly personal level. Especially if I can relate to some of the experiences

Catharsis is a good word for it, yeah. I've only ever made it to Chapter 9 in honkai(Final Lesson, which wasn't that impactful, maybe because I already knew the outcome), so I can't really say. But yeah, real depressing stories usually don't tend to get much more than a cult following cause of people generally avoiding it.

Blank face, huh. I find watching SoL so depressing—they have the perfect version of lives we don't have. That is why I love them, and I have watched hundreds of them.
SoL books aren't entertaining somehow, though.

The earliest chapters are the weakest in honkai storytelling. At that point, they weren't sure if they wanted it to be a side game of Hg2 or a stand-alone game. It gets better from there—at least better than most gacha game stories.

HoD arc was peak honkai, imo. Oh, and the second eruption manga. It is genuinely so good.

I appreciate the invitation to the stabbing club, but I'd like to turn it down. I just wanted to stab Theirl in particular, and only Theirl.
I see it seems im special*look up* what is that on the ceiling? *runs*

I'm done for the moment :sweating_profusely:

Why do people like their tables heavy?! Yeah, it looks good, but this piece of future garbage is heavy as hell!
