I’m currently thinking of a spire reef rank D exam that forces you to be a criminal, gain a bounty, and get banned from Scribel City guild quests.
Capture an innocent adventurer. Rank E+. Bring them to spire reef. Execute them in front of your newSith Lordpirate master. Can be an NPC adventurer.
Plot is that the Pirate Kings have been listening in on your quest reports the entire time, and they know your character is communicating with Scribel City.
Prove your loyalty, essentially.
Basically it would be a plot branch that locks you out of the “good side” because you chose to pick the pirates over the guild.
So...to clarify...it wouldn't be a guild rank exam?
I find it a bit weird and counter-productive for the guild to allow the death of one of its guild members in order to promote another one's rank...
...x...
It would be framed as a hijack quest. The pirates demonstrating that they know that Scribel Spies are in the area... and they they can throw the middle finger by getting an adventurer to kill another adventurer and then admit to it by sending a report back to the guild. At the very least, it marks the character as a criminal and they get a bounty.
It would probably be a D rank equivalent. Different countries / organizations maybe have their own systems for rating the threat level of people or monsters. I guess you could think of it like a driver's license. Sometimes you can get a driver's license in Canada and use it Mexico. Sometimes you can't. It depends on the country.
I don't think any adventurer would take that exam unless they were willingly looking to betray the guild to begin with.
The narrative goes like this:
- Heh, you think we (the pirate kings) didn't know you've been passing notes to the Scribel City Adventurer's Guild the entire time?
- We know that you're a spy! Hahahaha! Did you think you could hide without being noticed?
- Hey, but I like you. You'd make a good pirate! Even a "D rank" one, whatever silly words you have for ranks.
- But you gotta prove that you're loyal to the Pirate Kings. Or else you're just a mole and you can walk the plank.
- How do you show us your loyalty? Good question!
- Lots of us pirates got a nice hefty bounty on our heads.
- Go to Scribel City. Beat one of your old adventurer friends up. Not a wimp, of course. At least Rank E.
- Drag them back to us. I want to see you slit their throat right in front of my eyes. Kill them in cold blood.
- And then make sure to write up a cute "quest report", okay?
- Tell your old boss about what a model goody-two-shoe citizen you are!
- Sent that sheet of paper off and know you ain't going back to Scribel City again!
- You'll be a criminal just like the rest of us! Hahaha!
I'm feeling like someone is trying to play with the fire here. Guess my Bottomline hasn't been challenged that much lately.
But, well, if anyone ever did the quest, then doesn't that mean you are essentially out of the game? You are stuck in Spire Reef and no one would probably role-play with you in the Tavern ( except those like me, of course ) because lots of us IC are goody-two-shoes.
I feel very similar to GDLiZy on this. You could probably get away with quest boards outside of Scribel City. Depends on if it made sense to you. Could also open a quest board in a different direction, etc.
The idea at least (for me), is to open up a variety of different play styles in all sorts of different kinds of ways.
With dozens of regions, there's probably ways to make exams and other features of each location unique.
I'd mostly like to avoid Rank exams to be: "Kill X" or "Kill Y" clones whether it's in Narnia or Wonderland or somewhere else -- so at least to me, it's important that different places have their different flavors.
Yeah...well, I don't see Liana leaving the city for a very long time due to her sire's compulsion...
>w>

Oh, btw, can you only take quests past level 5-10 after becoming E rank?
I'm a little confused about what the rank actually means/does when you put levels next to quests and no ranks...
X
No, you can take any quests as long as your level is sufficed.
However, I was wondering about the scaling exp and g rewards for the higher level adventurers, so that they would have more motivation to accept lower level quests, instead of doing only their own quests.
I feel about the same as Ohko on this. I'd prefer if people did not take any higher level quests if they did not rank up first. (Rather, I'd say you aren't allowed to get to a level higher than 4 unless you ranked up first)The original intention was that you weren't supposed to take higher level quests unless you passed the rank.
Although frankly, I think it's fine to interpret the game in whichever way it makes the most sense to you.
IMO, the game is flexible in a lot of different ways, and I'd like to support the flexibility of the roleplay in as many places as possible.
My primary concern more than anything is prevent runaway OP-ness and also to keep the game interesting with sufficient variety of stuff!
Nothing is wrong per se, but uhn... You did read the recommended power levels for each level range, right? Because like... Even weakened, a Demigod is like... Wow, like... Wow, geez, wow!I'm new here and i dont know my way around yet, but i love the ideia of this adventurers guild so i want to join! any tips on things that are wrong or out place are welcome!

I thought you had to be level 5 to do the E rank exam, though.I feel about the same as Ohko on this. I'd prefer if people did not take any higher level quests if they did not rank up first. (Rather, I'd say you aren't allowed to get to a level higher than 4 unless you ranked up first)
But at the same time, I don't think we need to enforce that~

http://www.anonvote.com/strawpoll/m27356w I made a simple poll for it here, so anyone could vote their favourite!Aye aye! I can do this!
Get a couple people to agree on their favorites. I'll stick one picture at the top of each regional quest board.
Ah, right, that goes with my notion that you wouldn't level up until you finished the promotion exam, this was my bad.I thought you had to be level 5 to do the E rank exam, though.

I like women. I mean, what kind of man doesn't? Right?
Women also really like me. They practically beg me to bed them with their coquettish eyes!
Anyway, it seems some people are jealous of my popularity and have thus sent me seven challenges to duels!
Since I am a man of intellect and the arts, and despise physical conflict, I have decided that I shall hire a champion to take my place!
A word of warning, my dear defender of my handsome self, these men have all achieved E rank...I even gave them their badges myself when they passed...
As such, I will leave this quest open for each challenger.
Best of luck, my beloved champion~! Mwah~!

So far characters that have had the exp for level 5 but have not done the rank up exam have stayed at level 4. I recall this happening for Felicia, Vor and Solet'Luna at some point.'o'
What are those supermarkets doing, not providing the bare essentials?

Ahhhh, I see.Ah, right, that goes with my notion that you wouldn't level up until you finished the promotion exam, this was my bad.
You need 2000 exp to do the promotion exam to Rank E I believe. But I'd judge it as still doing it at level 4.
Well, that's just my personal opinion on how to make it work though! >.<Ahhhh, I see.
Then, I guess Liana's going to be stuck at level 4 with excess exp for a while.

I can keep thinking of ideas for a Spire Reef exam. ^^I feel very similar to GDLiZy on this.
I mean, sure, they could still do quests and side stories on their own, but I have a real hard time imagining a decent number of players doing this quest in order to have other people to RP with them. Because like... If they're criminals in Scribel, then they're basically unable to play on the Tavern unless someone else that is also banned from Scribel is willing to RP with them.
Moreover, if we ever make any sort of "event" that revolves around Scribel (like say, Slime Horde attacks the city), the player is essentially banned from participating as well because of they decided to choose the D-rank promotion of Spire Reef.
I feel like there are too many downsides to this, it'd be fine if this was a videogame, but you're taking too many possible RP avenues away from players if you do this kind of quest... Some of which they might not even be aware of.
I totally agree that it's good if the Promotion quests of different locations have different flavors, but I don't think this is the way to go about it. I think an Sneak/Assassination type of mission would suit Spire Reef's flavor while still not banning the player from the guild?
I feel about the same as Ohko on this. I'd prefer if people did not take any higher level quests if they did not rank up first. (Rather, I'd say you aren't allowed to get to a level higher than 4 unless you ranked up first)

Maybe robbed some armed fleet? Not just some random merchant ships, but a serious, pirate-hunting armed fleet from the other country that hated the Spire Reef.I can keep thinking of ideas for a Spire Reef exam. ^^
I don’t favor the Kraken idea though.
Will continue to brainstorm on things!
I’ve explained the thematic rationale for the Rank D exam previously, but I want to avoid content that baits the player into going on an OP rampage — which is extremely easy to write from an authors side as breezing it through.Maybe robbed some armed fleet? Not just some random merchant ships, but a serious, pirate-hunting armed fleet from the other country that hated the Spire Reef.
Mmmmmmmm, how to capture the feeling of failure/loss in a pirate/bandit related quest...?I can keep thinking of ideas for a Spire Reef exam. ^^

That's just a hard quest, isn't it? Ohko wanted something that would feel like a failure or like a huge loss of sorts. Or at least it's what I remember from the discussions of Geldenhorn's Rank Up quest.Maybe robbed some armed fleet? Not just some random merchant ships, but a serious, pirate-hunting armed fleet from the other country that hated the Spire Reef.
Ah, I was too slow~I’ve explained the thematic rationale for the Rank D exam previously, but I want to avoid content that baits the player into going on an OP rampage.
I’m fairly adamant on a Rank D exam that is set up so the character is forced to take some kind of loss.
Make an actual friend in Spire Reef and then kill themI’ve explained the thematic rationale for the Rank D exam previously, but I want to avoid content that baits the player into going on an OP rampage.

Make an actual friend in Spire Reef and then kill them![]()
So what you're saying is that if I become OP in the beggining, I can focus more on character growth?Character growth!
I will always stand by character growth!
Getting more OP doesn’t count!![]()
