After her recent tangle with the slime horde, Felica decided to take things easy for a bit and took on a temporary job as a receptionist at the guildhall. As soon as Nene walked in, who Felicia remembered as one of the receptionists who had often evaluated her quest reports, she faintly smiled at having their roles swapped for once. However, when she got a closer look at her, her face quickly creased into a worried frown.

"Nene, you look awful, are you alright?" She inquired briefly, looking at the dried blood stains on her clothes and how fatigued she seemed to be. Taking the report from her hands, Felicia read through its entirety solemnly, her face getting worse and worse as she read.

"...I sincerely admire your perseverance and bravery in the face of not only being captured, but also finding out that you would be used as a sacrifice in a demonic ritual..."

"But Nene, you've truly been possessed? I hope that we can find a way to rid you of this demon..."

"But anyway, here are your rewards. Get yourself a well-earned rest, Konaha has been working overtime on all the reports that have occurred whilst you were away." She smiled briefly, trying to ease the mood a little.

"And also you don't have to worry, things have not gotten worse whilst you were away. There have been no new demon/cult reports, so rest at ease."

Rewards:
  • EXP: 130
  • Money: 30G
"Thank you for your worries, miss Felicia, they are much appreciated...

"Though I am afraid it might not be possible to 'get rid' of him... Demons are very... Tricky, and powerful beings. By asking about the conditions of the deal and offering something that had the required weight to finish the deal, I ended up accepting it without even realizing what I was doing... I was foolish to hear his offer out even though I knew of the possibility of being tricked.

"I considered ending this life to prevent further harm, but... The Goddess teaches that all lives should be cherished, including my own... I'll try to follow that one. I just hope the path The Goddess has forged for me is one of light...

"Right now... I don't know. He entered my body, yet made no attempt to manifest himself. Perhaps he only intends to observe, perhaps he'll take control when he deems fit... I do not know what is the degree of his influence upon me. All I know is that this deal was one that I willingly, tricked or not, accepted, it is much harder to remove a Demon from his own home, than it is to remove them from someone else's... And due to those circumstances, I'm afraid my life belongs to him.

"I'm glad things are not any worse at least... Hopefully they'll improve soon.

"And... I think I might take your advice and rest... After eating something on the tavern perhaps, The Goddess knows how hungry I am right now... Take care, miss Felicia, hopefully the gods lead you to a better path than mine."

Zorion stood at the entrance of the Tavern as he threw a cursory glance around the room. After a moment he found a quite corner and sat down.

At first he just appeared to be staring into space, then he moved one of his armored hands and words made of light hovered above him, rotating like a sign board.
Craftsmen Request: One Iron mace, willing to pay 40G, negotiable

As he waited, he slowly drifted off to sleep and his sleeping face hidden under this iron helmet.

Of what kind? Magic is just an umbrella term for everything and anything. I knew a branch about elemental magic, and Solet knew some holy magic.

"Specifically Mana, I don't know how to harness it or even pull it from my body. My mother told me I was able to use it, but I can't seem to find it in me to pull it out."

Ahh, from the beginning? I see.

Sorry, but I can't help you. The awakening, as I called it, is differed from person to person. You see, Mana, in this world, is shapeless and everchanging. They are, in essence, nothing and everything. If you see them as fire, then they'll be fire, and if you see them as life, then they'll be life. Mana is inside of us, me, and you. It is also around us, but cannot be touched, and can only be felt. It's mysterious yet enlightening. One can only experience it themselves, and cannot be taught. Of course, artificial ways of awakening existed, but they would reduce your potential. So I wouldn't recommend it.

There is, unfortunately, no universal way to awaken, but I can retell my experience if you wish.

Vicious, who was nearby, was interested and listened in. After Adsall got up and left, she couldn't help voicing out her queries.

"So, this mana...that's what allows casters to perform magic over here?"

Essentially, yes. Think of it as a conductor. We used them to transmit our thoughts and created a chain reaction by satisfying some conditions. The results would depend on our method and the conditions we fulfilled. Like this... *Raises my finger* *Focuses* *Watches as a snowflake condenses from the nearby vapour*

Although the principle is easy, the execution required many variables to be calculated in real-time. The greater the power of the spell, the harder it is to satisfy its conditions.

"So the concept is the same...the replication and artificial induction of natural phenomenon through study and trial. Yet you're in remarkable physical health, and mana doesn't appear too life threatening if handled properly. Haaah...I'm envious."

Vicious stared at her own bandaged palms and smiled sadly.

It's survivorship bias. Mana seemed powerful when looking from the outside. However, despite its usefulness, the progress on it was as difficult if not more than innovating new technological advances. There are many limitations to Mana, such that could make the magic users useless. If the surrounding area was devoid of Mana, then that magic-user would be reduced to an ordinary person.

If possible, I would like to learn about the truth of Mana and its connection to this world, if not the others, too. The pursuit of Mana is the pursuit of truth, after all. I'm truly envious that you have something that could replicate the destructive power of spells that did not require any external power conductor.

It took Vicious a few moments to think about it more carefully, and when she understood, she laughed softly, unslinging the item in question from her back and placing it on the table.

"Oh, the Remington? I see where you're coming from now...yeah, from a mage's perspective, this item is somewhat cheating, isn't it. But again, that fact only holds true as long as I have bullets---err, food to give it. And this child is both a picky eater and a realistic worker; if it isn't fed exactly what it wants, it won't do any work. And even when it is fed properly, it gives exactly as much as it eats. Not to mention I gave it the last bit of food I had yesterday, and they don't sell any of it here. So now it's just a metal pipe used for hitting things until I----Gah!"

*COUGH!*

The girl doubled over as a patch of small black crystals appeared on her upper left arm, gasping. After taking a few deep breaths, she straightened up and gritted her teeth. The crystals vanished.

"Please don't mind that."

William Fort walks into the tavern. He turn around left and right to looks for the empty seat.
After that he sat on the empty seat and ordered his dinner.

"This world is in need of purification right? Alvin"

William talks to his spirit partner.

Ah, sorry. It seems that you also have a story of your owns. I could only wish you luck, and maybe, if possible, I would like to burrow the Remington to do a little research on it.

Vicious took a few seconds to think about it, and she was feeling generous, so why not? After all, the Remington couldn't be fired so she wouldn't be using it as a gun until she found bullets. And once Adsall finished her commission, she wouldn't be using it as a club either. Plus, a certain medic would probably kill her personally after learning of today's event, so she wouldn't be doing anything high-handed in a hurry.

"Here you go. Ah, it's quite durable and I understand researching it might be interesting, but I'll have to ask that you refrain from dismantling it, because I'm not too confident on putting it back together perfectly."

Oh, wow. I didn't expect to get this! *Eyes sparkle*

I might get too distracted so please have my address. If you need it, feel free to come to knock on my door so I can return it to you immediately! *Writes on a paper and hands it to Vicious*

"Mhm. I'll go see if there's deskwork---"

For a moment, a terrifying visage showed itself. In actuality, it was just she herself imagining it, but the vision of a girl sternly waving a frying pan was a very good deterrent. Vicious coughed.

"On second thoughts, I think I better go rest up more. Come to think of it, it's the first time we've properly talked, isn't it? I think you've gone through some of my reports already, but once again, my name is Vicious. Pleased to meet you."

She proffered a hand.
