Already learned how to jailbreak the subscriptions. No, BMW. I'm not paying you 20 dollars to heat my butt in the winter.

buddy what did you think car insurance was all this time? Why did you think its illegal to drive without one in nearly every state of the U.S?
You can still own and drive a vehicle without car insurance just not on PUBLIC roads the insurance company also isn't going to turn off your heater in the dead of winter because you missed a payment

not but you can get your WHOLE CAR taken away due to missed payments on other things.
And even if that wasnt the case, it still isnt saying much. You can do anything as you arent caught doing it. Its why i said illegal. Fuckin everything important to our survival is behind a paywall.

Just buy used car, it would be fine.

Warranty be damned, The reparations cost would be cheaper than the usually warranty.

Especially for late 1997- early 2000 era cars, there's so many stock spareparts lying around as if it were worthless.

It's far cheaper to service and fix late 1997 - early 2000 era BMW and Mercedes than it is to service 2020 Toyota and Honda.

Hopefully, they don't get too crazy with it.

I didn't watch the video, but from the other posts here, it seems like BMW pulled some nonsense where you have to pay a monthly fee to get access to basic features of your car?

I mean, it sounds absurd, but at the same time... Isn't BMW absurdly expensive anyways? The people who can afford a BMW can probably afford this extra too.

BMW did start a seat subscription for $18 a month. It also included other things, like auto-high beams and adaptive cruise control (per the article). Even though I can afford it, that doesn't mean I want to nor should I have to. It's a basic feature majority of other cars come standard with, and BMW now all of a sudden wants to put it behind a paywall? Hell no.

Being able to use your car fully and not have to pay random dollars here and there just for basic features is super greedy. When you pay for an automobile, you put that loan down for the whole car. A car that will be yours when the loan is paid off (unless you pay cash and buy it out). Adding subscriptions on top of an asset that instantly depreciates and the company does not have to pay to repair/replace if it breaks is not okay.

Edit: Sorry, to add- BMW isn't exactly more expensive than any other vehicle on the market actually. You can afford it as a normal person depending on the model you get. The big dolores come into play when you get the faster, sporty models as the insurance skyrockets on them. But if you're buying that kind of car then you can afford the maintenance on it at that point.

Huh? Interesting, that's wildly different from how it is over here.

I did a quick googling just now. The cheapest BMW available in my country is sold for roughly 300,000 of my currency (about 80,000 USD).

The cheapest Fiat car I found OTOH was 67,000 (roughly 13,400 USD), so like... Almost 5x as cheap as the BMW... And like, the average price of a Fiat was around 100,000 (roughly 20,000 USD), so... Still 3x cheaper than the cheapest BMW.

Kinda wild to hear that their prices are similar in your country. I would have never guessed it~

Oh, I totally agree with you there~

I was just talking from the perspective of my country which is like... Well, BMW is so ridiculously expensive that nobody would ever buy it unless they had way too much money to spare... At that point, the extra monthly fee would be irrelevant.

If BMW has more competitive prices over there, then it is definitely much worse to have a subscription.

You have my condolences. As a car guy, I would not survive over there. Prices likely also depend on availability of the models, the parts, the actual mark-up on the vehicles, and taxes. It sounds like to me the target market there isn't something for BMW, so those that do get sold are marked up.

Off the lot, BMWs do tend to be among the higher valued vehicles but they depreciate exponentially compared to other vehicles, making it cheap to pick them up if you go a few years back. Fiats and smaller vics like it will definitely be significantly cheaper and they also hold value better because of lower maintenance and reliability, as they are meant to be both long lasting and affordable. BMWs are meant to be "affordable" comfort sport cars with better engines that have a bit of a kick to them. Something you can fit into the budget if you make a sacrifice here or there for it.

Ah, yeah, car prices are pretty high over here~

... Which is why I only travel by bus! XD

Well, that, and I am scared of driving too. I did get a driving license some 9 years ago or so, but I gave up on it very quickly after trying to drive my mom's car a few times... Too much stuff to pay attention to while moving on a high speed deadly machine... I just gave up.

Ah, and BMWs are just seem as a luxury product over here, I guess? So they sell the cars at crazy high prices because they don't expect the average person to buy them anyways~

... Though well, every car brand is sold at crazy high prices over here. It's just that some brands are even more absurdly expensive than others~
