I find regression stories entertaining.

Re:Zero is quite interesting, that is regression.

So, regression stores would be any story where you go back to your own childhood? Do they include stories where the character gets a second childhood (in another world)?

If so, I love these kinds of stories. I can't write them myself, I've tried so many times to write isekai stories where the main character begins their life as a child and ages up, and it's just incompatible with my writing style it feels like. (Though it has been over a year since I've tried, so maybe...) Still the whole moral dilemma of being a child to the world, but having the knowledge and morality of an adult is very fun to read!

I like the idea of redoing your childhood, just see how many things that your childhood self missed. Of course that also means I wouldn't be comfortable dating until I'm like 30 because of the mental age gap with peers but can't win them all

I didnt really have re:zero in mind when I posted this. Subaru does micro time loop like save scumming but considering the frequency at which everyone die, he needs at least an ability that good.

Transmigrating as baby in another world is not a time regression because you dont go through the same event as your past self did. You just face an entirely different life.

Redoing your own life has such a demoralizing nature to it. You see, personality is your innate tendency about how you acquire data and your preferred means to face the unknown. But when life ceases to be an unknown, it just becomes a problem to be solved.

Regressing teaches the MC that they irredeemably suck and the only way for them to shine and be happy is to be an imposter who got spoon fed crucial opportunities that would require the time and the mind of a dedicated gold seeker.

Sure, butterfly effect reintroduces unknowns, but if your life completely changes to unrecognizable degree, why does the story needs time regression instead of turning mc's own life around by their own strength in their actual age?

Theres no shortage of device to spoon feed opportunities to MC. A mentor, a system, an inheritance from a shady old man in the hospital you were fired from (cultist simulator).

Plus the whole "wow mc is so great and has potential as a child" is a transient cope that only work for a while until it's completely irrelevant.

edit: it's great as comedy though. If your MC is an imposter goblin stealing all the good stuff before people are naturally rewarded for their actual personality and abilities, you might as well play on it and make your MC the most absolute degenerate retard who bullshits everyone to success

It is like when you are thousands of years old as a vampire. Dating is a challenge. No one can relate to your plight of remembering things from Egypt that are different from history, and having the whole world say you are the one that is wrong.

he wouldn't have been able to bang the demon lord because she died in the original timeline so it's forgivable
I get what you’re saying though, they always try to put an ordinary guy growing powerful due to regression despite the talent gap.

I find regression stories to be better if it’s about revenge or preventing something from happening that they know about.
