Does it really work that way? B/c the 2-start review I got knocked my ranking down a notch, or maybe that's b/c said reviewer unfollowed my story afterwards.
I'm not sure, it is second hand information. Someone posted on their novel some advise to getting to trending on royal road. The first hurdle is to get enough reviews to be in the pool.

Keep it up! Write the story the way you want.

I didn't get much interest in my fanfic on . . . well, anywhere, but it's my story, and I like it. I'll take 5-star ratings on RR, but I'm rocking the 1-star ratings here.

How old is that information? It might not even apply anymore b/c of the updates RR's done over the years.

This is what the kids these days call an 'unpopular opinion'.

RR is absolutely fine as it is.

The aggressive community filters the site. I visit RR expecting higher quality novels as a result. The despaired authors rush to SH and suckle from its comforting and forgiving tit. They write more and are less constrained.
It is a beautiful ecosystem. Both organs have their purpose. Both are flourishing. Stop complaining.

There is a fundamental difference in motivation for expressing the respective opinions.
There's no point in voicing content for the status quo unless it's questioned often enough.
So the latter will be heard more frequently by design.

To be perfectly honest I understand where you are coming from. Can't really stand the elitist attitude many have got over there or their absolute dick riding on the litRPG genre.

But I believe it gives people the idea of a skill floor over there, you know, a minimum amount of competence before you can write amongst the big boys.

Wow, are you related to Patric Rothfuss (the guy that wants to eat Brandon Sanderson's liver to gain his writing power)?

Since good sir says it's fine can I have good recommendations from RR that isn't litrpg? I prefer fantasy/sci fi and no smuts.
