What are the common ways in which ogres are portrayed in fantasy novels? Do you have a preference in the way they should be portrayed?

Branching out from the question, I portrayed my orcs as a clan/sub-race (of Demon people) with organized armies, uniforms reminiscent of 18th Century European militaries, gunpowder tactics and strategies, and more technologically, culturally, and educationally advanced than my human races.

Ogres usually don't show up in the stories I read. Just DnD and Warcraft really come to mind. But I imagine Shrek Ogres show up alot, too.

Looking it up, Ogres are described as having two key traits:

They are large, with oversized heads.
And they eat people, particularly human children.

These traits have also been given out to other creatures like Giants, Cyclops, Oni, and so on. In these cases, the creatures are described as Ogres or as having Ogre-like traits. Like Giant Ogre, One-Eyed Ogre, Demon Ogre, so on.

So as long as you give them those two traits, it's an Ogre. They're a fucking ancient monster, so you have to really distill the details to get a good definition.

Okay, I probably need to write another response because I doubt anyone would mention this. It's not popular\common, but an interesting portrayal of ogres, Ogre Kingdoms from WH Fantasy.

I see them portrayed as violent war monsters.
I want then portrayed as idiots who are tricked into fighting, and are all dead

I like to think Goblins, Orcs and Ogres as being sort of related and similar, but Gobs are generally subhuman in every way, Orcs are fairly close to humans in everyway, and Ogres are superhuman in most ways... And all of em are green skinned male only humanoids who abduct and r*pe girls... Gobs try to capture everyone they can, orcs might have some more preferences, but Ogres especially like to break the haughty...

It's a literal cannon.

It'd be ironic to have a big orc wield a hand cannon for human use. Besides, my novel has humans who are technologically inferior than the demons, and that includes gunpowder weaponry.
