What's the difference between a glass of water that's half empty and one that's half full?

Realist who pays for things will say half empty. Someone who gets everything for free will say half full. Someone who is an entitled lazy bum will also say half empty.

It is both. It just depends on who you ask.

A half empty glass requires filling due to laws that state that a glass mustn't fall a sip below that point. A half full glass will be allowed to go lower.

As a politician, it is your job to ensure that you and your cronies' glasses are considered half empty at 55-65% while your political opponents and those likely to vote for them aren't considered half empty until they hit 45-35%. The simplest methods of achieving this would be to change the shapes of the glasses or using a convoluted measuring system that only applies to your district.

There is no difference. It's just a matter of perspective. A pessimist would think the glass is half-empty while an optimist would think the glass is half-full.
A real pessimist would not concern themselves with half full or empty. They would be questioning if someone spit in the cup. I love the image of three glasses of apple juice. One says he's half empty the half full. The last questions if he's full of piss.

I will try to explain it scientifically. If the glass is half full then it implies that the glass was being filled up and is only halfway from being filled. If it's half empty then it implies that liquid was being removed from actions such as drinking or spilling the liquid. It is halfway to being empty. It's become an argument or pessimist vs optimist but it's really just an indication of actions taken involving the glass and the liquid.

Okay.

1) A goose fills the glass to half then leaves the room

2) A duck enters the room, fill the glass to full then empties it to half then leaves the room

3) The cup sits out overnight

4) The goose and duck enter the room at the same time the next day

Is the glass half empty, or half full?

I say that a person who sees a half-full glass is an omptimist, and a person who sees a half-empty glass is an optimist who learned the truth.

They can still be an optimist if the half-empty glass is the last bit of water a person stranded in the desert has that the optimist wishes a cruel death from dehydration upon.
