Feels bad, but nothing anyone can do about it.

If anything, being able to know the "why" feels more important to me, but implementing something like that would be impractical and lead to more issues, especially given the wide spectrum of personalities we have in both authors and readers.

It's not something to worry about too much since it's just one person. I would be worried if ten people dropped my story at one but one is normal since people like different things. They may just not like whatever you're writing about. Worry about the number of readers you have rather than the number of readers you lost... That is, unless if the readers you lost is more than the readers you gained.

It would be a total lie if I say I wasn't bothered about it. It affects my mood, I feel down. But looking on the brighter side there are still plenty of those who are waiting for the story to continue so I draw strength from that.

The drop statistic of a story is only created through people who put your story on a reading list marked "dropped". Most likely to filter your story out or remember it as "not for them".

Honestly, those are only a handful of people. The majority of people who'll drop your story (or have long dropped it) are invisible. You might realize it when your overall reader count drop. Or when you get a 5 readers and the count only goes up by 3. But otherwise, there'll always be people who leave your story and some who'll start reading it... I probably saw a hundred or so people drop my story just over the weeks of hiatus or updating statistics by chance. The story is still growing and never really had any dip in the reader count.

If you want to panic, look at your chapter views, comments, or the like. If you see a big drop there, that's a bigger problem... :D

Look on the bright side, at least they didn't leave scathing remarks about how you're 'a filthy evil imp who should have your dick removed and a red-hot metal pipe shoved up your ass' just because you have a few story elements that triggers them. Dropped stat? Easily ignored. But if you're bothered by it, read through your story again and ask yourself if there is anything that could've been done better.

This is weirdly specific, is it from personal experience xD

I periodically clean up my reading list and only leave the stories I was interested in, sending the ones I haven't read in a while and lost my interest in to the bin.
You should basically consider the readers in the paused option as ones who have dropped the story too.
But don't worry, there will always be those readers.

You shouldn't be scared of dropped readers. There are worse things that can happen to a story in SH, like having your story deleted or hidden from the main page.

I turn a blind eye to it. It does not affect men in the slightest

Not sure about that. Some people like will not read a story for a while, one, two , six months and will only go back to read when there are a lot of content

I have a "paused" reading list for those stories where I'm either waiting for more chapters, or those I'm taking a break from but intend to return to.
Stories I lost interest in for good, or got disappointed by, go in the "dropped" list, so that I don't get burned twice by them.
